Aberdeen – Councillors recommend blocking Kintore hydrogen plant

Plans to create one of the biggest hydrogen plants in Europe in Kintore are facing opposition from councillors who want the project axed.

The Statera Energy development would be the biggest hydrogen production plant in the UK, using surplus wind farm energy and water from the Don to create hydrogen.

The Press and Journal reports the project, which would require a network of underground pipes and cables to import and export power, would create 3,500 jobs during construction and 300 once operational.

In spite of that, locals have voiced their opposition to the plans and raised concerns about noise, pollution and the impact on residents’ health.

Councillors recommended the project for refusal. A final decision is expected to be made at the meeting of full council in April.
