Aberdeen – hydrogen buses coming back into service after technical issue resolved.

All 15 vehicles were taken out of service by First back in February when a technical issue was identified, with buses from the company’s Glasgow fleet temporarily replacing them.

Aberdeen’s hydrogen buses are being gradually returned to service after a technical issue with the fleet was resolved.

First Bus pulled all 15 of their vehicles from service back in February when the fault was identified.

The Granite City-based company said they were taken out of service to allow them to resolve the fault and better understand the issue.

Replacements from the company’s fleet in Glasgow have been used in recent weeks to fill the gaps left in the service by the absent hydrogen buses.

First introduced the buses back in January 2021 as they looked to provide the city with greener and quieter buses.

It is estimated the buses can save a kilogram of CO2 per kilometre they drive, and they have also been identified as vehicles that can reduce noise pollution in the city.

Thanks for staying up to date with Hydrogen Central. They are predominantly used on the number 19 Peterculter to Tillydrone route.

In a statement, First said:

We are pleased to confirm two of our zero-emissions hydrogen buses have returned to service in Aberdeen.

“It is expected the number of hydrogen buses in service will continue to increase gradually over the coming weeks as we return our fleet to its full complement.”
