Air Products and Hamburg Port Authority sign agreement to accelerate expansion of a comprehensive hydrogen value chain in the Port of Hamburg.
Air Products (NYSE:APD) and the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) announced that they have reached a collaboration agreement to explore opportunities to build a comprehensive hydrogen value chain across the Port of Hamburg.
Air Products and HPA share the goal of accelerating the expansion of the production, supply chains and consumption of hydrogen in northern Germany and in the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
In their collaboration, both focus on finding viable ways to increase the demand for hydrogen and thus drive the decarbonization of heavy-duty vehicles (including in port logistics) and industry.
Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics and Innovation in Hamburg, said:
The interest shown by Air Products underlines the potential of the Port of Hamburg with regard to the development of hydrogen infrastructure.
“I am very pleased that Air Products, with its global hydrogen expertise, is partnering with the Port of Hamburg to build a sustainable supply chain for hydrogen. This is an important part of Hamburg’s package of measures on the way to a climate-neutral port.”
Jens Meier, CEO of the Hamburg Port Authority:
HPA is committed to sustainable and innovative technologies and their use in the port and thus supports decarbonisation and the air pollution control plan of the City of Hamburg.
“This agreement is a further step on our way to taking concrete measures here.”
Kurt Lefevere, Vice President Northern Continent at Air Products.
Ports and their industrial settlements in Hamburg and worldwide play a decisive role in the expansion of hydrogen use in the energy transition.
“We welcome the opportunity to work with the Hamburg Port Authority, share our proven knowledge and experience across the hydrogen supply chain and seek ways to support them on their path to sustainability and promote Germany’s ambitious decarbonisation agenda.”
