Algeria and Europe sign agreement for studies on green hydrogen project

Sonatrach (Algeria), Sonelgaz (Algeria), Vng (Germany), Snam (Italy), Sea Corridor (partnership between Eni and Snam) and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria) have signed today a memorandum of understanding to conduct the necessary studies and assess the feasibility and profitability of an integrated project for the production of green hydrogen in Algeria in order to supply the European market through the SoutH2 Corridor. This was learned from a press release by Sonatrach. The signing ceremony took place at the Oran Convention Center and was chaired by the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohammad Arkab, in the presence of the President and CEO of the Sonatrach Group, Rachid Hachichi, of the Chairman and CEO of Sonelgaz, Mourad Adjal, of the Chief International Officer of Snam, Sergio Molisani, from the President and CEO of SeaCorridor, Francis Caria, by the CEO of Verbund Green Hydrogen, Franz Helm, And Hans Joachim Polk, member of the Board of Directors of Vng.

The memorandum of understanding will allow the parties to jointly explore the opportunity to implement an integrated multi-stakeholder project along the green hydrogen value chain using the SoutH2 Corridor, the same note reads.

The corridor, the note concludes:

Will play a key role in reducing energy dependence on fossil fuels and promoting an energy transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon economy.

“The implementation of this ambitious project has the potential to meet Europe’s green energy needs and will strengthen Algeria’s position as a major energy supplier to Europe,”
