Amara Raja Infra Builds India’s First Green Hydrogen Fuel Station in Leh

Amara Raja Infra has successfully completed India’s first green hydrogen fueling station for NTPC Ltd in Leh, Ladakh. The facility was inaugurated by Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, on Saturday.

Situated at an altitude of 3,400 meters above sea level, the station is capable of producing 80 kilograms of green hydrogen per day. Constructed over two years, the project was accomplished under extreme climatic conditions, with temperatures ranging from -25°C to 30°C.

This pioneering project aims to support emission-free transportation in Leh and its surrounding areas, positioning India among the global leaders in green mobility. Following its completion, NTPC will deploy five hydrogen fuel cell buses in the region.

Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head of Power EPC at Amara Raja Infra, stated,

This milestone project underscores our EPC capabilities and establishes our position as a front-runner in green hydrogen infrastructure development.

The initiative is a foundational step towards advancing large-scale green hydrogen mobility and storage solutions in India, aligning with the National Hydrogen Energy Mission. The project will also aid in the study and implementation of similar hydrogen fueling stations across the country.
