ArcelorMittal’s site in Lozère, France, plans to decarbonize thanks to renewable gas and hydrogen produced by Haffner Energy

Haffner Energy’s proprietary solution has been selected for a project designed to produce renewable syngas and hydrogen for industrial and mobility use in the Nord Lozère industrial area, in the Occitanie region. One of the goals is to meet the energy needs of the ArcelorMittal plant in Saint-Chély-d’Apcher.

According to the full project forecast report by consulting firm Elcimaï Environnement,

The [Haffner Energy] process, which is based on biomass thermolysis, has proved to be the most suitable technology for the needs and inputs available in the area,

The project’s development is planned in two phases: first, producing syngas to replace the fossil natural gas currently used by ArcelorMittal; second, transforming part of this syngas into renewable hydrogen to meet today’s industrial as well as future mobility needs.

Philippe Haffner,। Chairman and CEO of Haffner Energy, says:

We’re proud that our HYNOCA® solution can meet the needs of this project,

“We are aligned with all the objectives of the project: promoting the development of the area and boosting its reindustrialization, while advancing the decarbonization of industrial and mobility uses. Contributing to this project is therefore both a mark of confidence for Haffner Energy and an opportunity to participate in the emergence of a virtuous local ecosystem.”

The project steering committee has just launched a Call for Expressions of Interest (AMI) to identify industrial players who will act as the financial and operational leads for the project.

The press release from Lozère Développement and Territoires d’industrie Nord Lozère agencies is available here.
