Arpa and Linde show how Green hydrogen revolutionizes logistics with forklifts powered by this fuel – Spain.
The Arpa and Linde companies show how they work and how fast they are to recharge compared to those traditionally used.
Bringing the use of clean energy closer to the logistics sector is what the company Arpa Equipos Móviles intends to present, in the hands of Serma – the official Linde Material Handling dealer in Aragón and Soria – the first forklift trucks powered by battery hydrogen fuel.
Compared to conventional ones, also with an electric motor, its main advantage is the total recharging time of just 2 minutes , which allows the machines to be operational 24 hours a day, when those powered by lithium batteries need 3 to 6 hours to recharge.
Jesús Montero, director of the Energy, Gas and Waste department at Arpa, said:
There are up to 2,500 forklifts of this type powered by hydrogen in countries such as Germany and others in northern Europe , but in Spain today they barely exist.
Said Jesús Montero, director of the Energy, Gas and Waste department at Arpa, who carried out a demonstrative exercise of its operation at its facilities in La Muela where they have been using these forklifts in recent weeks.
The Arpa manager, said:
The hydrogen fuel cell promotes the circular economy , in addition to giving the possibility of having one’s own and self-sufficient energy source.
Hydrogen “is not only a clean and renewable energy, but it is storable, transportable and scalable to the size of the vehicle”, he recalled, emphasizing that they have been investigating for three years how to take advantage of the excess of renewables to generate electricity and in turn, through a electrolyser, hydrogen gas.
“The scientific bases that Arpa has in Antarctica, in a project with the Ministry of Defense, have served as a testing ground to develop hydrogen plants,” said Montero, convinced that “five years from now there will be a great development of hydrogen green given the very high cost of gas and electricity today”.
Likewise, he highlighted, it is one more step in the commitment to the circular economy that Arpa EMC (Campaign Mobile Teams) has been developing for years.
According to Álvaro Pérez, product manager at Linde, and Fernando Aguilar, sales technician at Serma, these hydrogen-powered forklift trucks “are designed to revolutionize the way renewable energy is managed in logistics warehouses and retail , automotive and manufacturing industries” given that “the benefits of optimizing fleet energy are felt from day one”.
