Ashok Leyland Plans Launch of H2 Trucks & EVs in the Next 2 Years
Chennai, October 7, 2024 — Ashok Leyland plans to officially launch its first hydrogen truck within the next 18 to 24 months, making a major step forward in green transportation. Alongside this initiative, Ashok Leyland also started delivering its largest-ever order of electric trucks to Billion Electric Mobility on Monday. This marks significant progress in its commitment to sustainable mobility.
Ashok Leyland Starts EV Deliveries to Billion Electric Mobility
On the same day, Ashok Leyland started the delivery of its largest-ever order of electric trucks to Billion Electric Mobility, a part of Group BillionE. The order includes 180 electric vehicles, such as the Boss Electric Truck and 45 AVTR 55T electric tractors. These truck will be used on key routes like Chennai to Bengaluru and Chennai to Vijayawada.
Kartikey Hariyani, CEO of Billion E-Mobility, expressed gratitude to Ashok Leyland for delivering these cutting-edge vehicles. He emphasized the importance of building a sustainable and efficient transportation ecosystem, which aligns with their goal of driving India’s green mobility transition.
The manufacturer shared that its Lucknow plant will become operational by the third quarter of the next financial year. This will add more capacity to its production lines. Currently, Ashok Leyland manufactures electric trucks on a small scale. Furthermore, Ashok Leyland is expanding its production capabilities, with plans to establish dedicated assembly lines for electric and alternative-energy trucks at its Hosur plant. This development follows the earlier introduction of India’s first hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck in collaboration with Reliance Industries (RIL).
Ashok Leyland’s Advanced Electric Vehicles: Features & Performance
Ashok Leyland’s new electric vehicles are built to offer top performance, safety, and efficiency. Their battery packs are placed at the frame level, making them easy to use with regular trailers and structures. These batteries are protected with IP67, which keeps them safe from water and dust.
The vehicles also include Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) to improve safety. For quicker charging, they have dual-gun charging, which allows two chargers to be used at the same time. They also support the widely-used Common Charging Standard 2 (CCS2), making them compatible with most chargers.
