Australia – Pure Hydrogen to supply first hydrogen garbage truck.
[Stockhead] Pure Hydrogen is progressing its ambition of becoming a major player in the mobility segment after reaching an agreement to develop Australia’s first hydrogen-fuelled garbage truck.Under the binding term sheet, the company will supply a hydrogen fuel cell side-lift RCV truck to domestic waste collection provider JJ’s Waste & Recycling.
Pure Hydrogen (ASX:PH2) will also supply JJ’s Waste with green hydrogen made from waste-to-hydrogen along with a refuelling service that is unique to Pure Hydrogen.
In addition, both companies will undertake a trial program with the first vehicle to determine the effectiveness of the partnering arrangement under the term sheet.
This will begin later this year with the first truck based on the Gold Coast and set to glide quietly across the suburbs of South East Queensland.
Thousands of trucks
A successful deployment is potentially lucrative for Pure Hydrogen as JJ’s Waste has over 2,000 trucks in its fleet that could be replaced by environmentally-friendly hydrogen trucks that require less maintenance as they reach their use by date.
Moving to hydrogen could also be a cleaner, more economical alternative to diesel, which is currently about $1.98 per litre based on the current Brisbane Terminal Gate Price.

JJ’s Waster national fleet manager Owen Burton added that with vehicle technology changing rapidly, his company wanted to be able to offer its council customers with the latest in environmentally-friendly vehicle options whilst ensuring maximum safety and reliability for drivers and the public.
“JJ’s Waste feel it is important to assist in the development of these technologies by partnering with companies such as Pure Hydrogen to conduct vehicle trials and we look forward to seeing the results later this year,” he explained.
Hydrogen mobility
Pure Hydrogen has been pushing hard on securing a leading position in the hydrogen-fuel cell vehicle sector.
Moves taken to achieve this include becoming the largest shareholder in Australian FCEV manufacturer H2X Global Limited, establishing a joint venture with Advik Hi-Tech Pvt. Ltd to build hydrogen-powered fuel cells, generators, and vehicles for use in India, and reaching a deal with specialist vehicle importer and distributor BLK auto to resell hydrogen buses. In November 2021, it signed a terms sheet to supply seven hydrogen fuel cell trucks to AKM Earth.
The company is also developing three different ways of making hydrogen including out of waste, methane and from water.
