Belgian transporters see a lot of future in hydrogen.

During the Transport & Logistics Awards, Air Products conducted a survey among the attendees about their opinion about hydrogen as a fuel for the future for road transport. A total of 294 people participated in the survey and 73% of transporters believe in hydrogen.

Of the 294 participants, 131 (45%) were active as a transporter and 163 (55%) had another activity in logistics. When asked whether you think hydrogen for road transport is the fuel for the future, 233 respondents answered YES.

However, transporters are slightly less positive: 73% of the respondents believe in hydrogen compared to 85% of the other profiles active in logistics. It was also striking that the younger the age of the respondent, the higher the confidence in hydrogen as a fuel for road transport.

The respondents (21%) who do not yet have confidence in hydrogen indicated, among other things, that they are still too little familiar with hydrogen and that they thought or believed that the infrastructure is not yet ready for it.

Frank Schnitzler, Business Development Manager Hydrogen for Mobility and Energy Transition at Air Products, said:

It is clear that hydrogen is a topic that interests companies in logistics.

“The choice of hydrogen for heavy-duty vehicles, compared to other technologies, enables faster refuelling, a longer range of the vehicle and the transport of heavier loads. It is expected that hydrogen will help meet the social need to make transport more sustainable, with little to no CO2 emissions.”

“Companies such as Air Products are fully investing in new hydrogen production facilities and are working hard to build an infrastructure. For example, Air Products recently announced the construction of the largest hydrogen filling station for trucks in Rotterdam.”

“The company is also building a new hydrogen filling station in Germany. Our technology is already used in more than 250 projects around the world.”
