Budapest Hydrogen Summit to Tackle Industry Challenges

The 4th Budapest Hydrogen Summit, scheduled for Apr. 15, will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the role of hydrogen in Europe’s energy transition, the latest developments and opportunities in hydrogen tech.

Hosted in the heart of Central and Eastern Europe, the summit will serve as a premier platform for strategic discussions on hydrogen’s future.

Hydrogen leaders with diverse backgrounds and expertise will come together in April in Budapest to share their insights and perspectives on the development of the hydrogen economy, and to find out about the opportunities and challenges in harnessing the full power of hydrogen on our way towards a net-zero future.

The event will be held under the main patronage of Attila Steiner, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy of Hungary, who will open this year’s event and reflect on the Hungarian government’s commitment to advancing hydrogen technologies.

Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO of Hydrogen Europe  – the leading European association representing the interest of the hydrogen industry and its stakeholders – will also speak at the Budapest Hydrogen Summit, examining the current and projected growth of the industry and its role in achieving the EU’s Fit for 55 and Green Deal targets.

At the Budapest Hydrogen Summit, we will hear about ambitious projects that advance hydrogen deployment in the region. Cristian Călin, director of Green Gas Programs and Decarbonization Solutions at Delgaz Grid and coordinator of the 20HyGrid project will share the results of testing the technical feasibility of supplying households with a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen through the current natural gas infrastructure, to identify a solution for partial decarbonisation of the heating sector.

Matthias Greiml, project manager of Green Gas Technology at RAG Austria AG will introduce the EUH2Stars project an ambitious international initiative paving the way towards the future of European underground hydrogen storage, while Ákos Kriston, CEO of Hungarian Gas Storage (HGS) will shed light on the status of Hungary’s Aquamarine project.

Leaders of regional gas transmission system operators such as Hungary’s FGSZ, Romania’s Transgaz, Bulgaria’s Bulgartransgaz, Ukraine’s GTSOU and Greece’s Desfa will also attend the Budapest Hydrogen Summit to assess the repurposing of the gas infrastructure and how it can support hydrogen deployment.

Hydrogen production methods will also be under the spotlight, with in-depth discussions on green hydrogen and its opportunities and challenges. The audience of the Budapest Hydrogen Summit will hear about the experiences of MOL Group, which handed over a 10-megawatt capacity green hydrogen plant – the largest in Central and Eastern Europe –  in Százhalombatta a year ago. MVM Group, one of the largest energy companies in Central Europe, will also share its hydrogen-related plans, targets and strategy.

The event will showcase the development of hydrogen hubs and hydrogen valleys, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation and industrial clusters. Industry leaders from various national organisations such as István Lepsényi, president of the Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association; Jan Weiterschut, president of the Slovak National Hydrogen Association and Vesna Kučan Polak, director for Business Development and New Technologies at the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency will present best practices from Central and Eastern Europe and beyond, highlighting successful initiatives and strategies for scaling up hydrogen adoption.

Join the fourth Budapest Hydrogen Summit and become a proactive member of the up-and-coming hydrogen market. The conference will take place in Hotel Marriott Budapest. Further information is available on the event’s website.
