Chile Ministry of Energy signs agreement with Port of Rotterdam for the export of green hydrogen.
Juan Carlos Jobet, Chile Minister of Energy and Mining, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Rotterdam for the export of green hydrogen.
The Secretary of State stressed that
this agreement will be key to the development of this new pole of progress for Chile, since Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and 13% of the goods destined for the continent enter through it.
Jobet emphasized that the objective of the MoU is part of a plan to ensure that countries work together to match international hydrogen supply and demand.
In addition, it seeks to collaborate in actions and initiatives to advance the use of hydrogen, sharing information, knowledge, good practices and experiences, formal discussions and collaborating on projects of mutual interest and benefit.
“In Chile we have enormous comparative advantages in the production of green hydrogen, and that is what we address in our National Strategy: we want to produce the cheapest green hydrogen in the world by 2030 and be among the top three exporters by 2040”, explained the minister Jobet.
Allard Castelein, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, emphasized that:
It is partnerships like these, with a country like Chile, that allow us to take important steps towards the realization of our ambitions as a hydrogen hub for Northeast Europe.
“The economic and environmental importance of establishing this trade route is significant, as we believe that hydrogen will be important to meet climate goals and will be beneficial for both the producer and recipient countries.”
This agreement is in addition to the agreement signed with the Singapore Ministry of Commerce to study the technical and commercial viability of supply routes from Chile to Asian markets.
