Chile’s Corfo Unveils Ambitious Initiatives to Propel Green Hydrogen Industry Forward.
The Chilean Production Promotion Corporation (Corfo) has unveiled two initiatives aimed at accelerating the development of the green hydrogen industry in the country.
The first initiative is the launch of a Call for Proposals (RFP) to encourage the manufacturing and/or assembly of electrolyzers and their components within Chile. This move marks the second phase of an ongoing effort that began last year with the conclusion of the Request for Information (RFI) process. The RFI sought to identify companies interested in producing or assembling electrolyzers. Nine proposals for electrolyzer factories were received during this initial phase.
The current RFP aims to solicit concrete proposals for establishing factories and assembly operations for electrolyzers and their components on Chilean soil. The objective is to provide opportunities for national companies to participate in this emerging industry by partnering with international companies already engaged in the market. Corfo will co-finance up to 60% of the total project cost, with a maximum limit of ten million dollars per project. Interested parties must submit their proposals by August 30.
The second initiative involves the upcoming launch, in June, of a tender to establish the Technological Center for Innovation in Green Hydrogen of Magallanes. This center, the first of its kind in Chile, will aim to provide scientific and technological support and develop human capabilities for the green hydrogen sector. National entities, including technological centers, universities, and base technology companies, are invited to participate in the tender process. Selected participants will be required to contribute to the project’s co-financing through monetary or in-kind contributions. The award announcement is scheduled for November of this year.
These initiatives underscore Chile’s commitment to fostering innovation and investment in the green hydrogen industry, positioning the country as a key player in the global transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
