Coca-Cola: First electric truck from Hylane in operation – hydrogen
The provider of emission-free trucks has rented a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 with BergeRecotrail trailer to Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Germany.
Hylane is further expanding its partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Germany (CCEP DE) and has leased a battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 with BergeRecotrail trailer.
The vehicle is already operating in the Mannheim area for beverage transport and is expected to provide insights for Coca-Cola’s long-term tests, it is said. For long-term tests in heavy road freight transport, CCEP DE is already using the hydrogen truck Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell from Hylane in its logistics operation.

Technology for Beverage Transport
The new vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 LS 4×2. The battery-electric tractor unit has a range of around 500 kilometers and a battery capacity of 620 kilowatt-hours. The charging power is up to 400 kilowatts via Combined Charging System (CCS) and up to 1,000 kilowatts via Megawatt Charging System (MCS), enabling its use in multi-layer logistics operations. Furthermore, the eActros 600 reaches a peak power of up to 600 kilowatts. The permissible total weight in combined transport is up to 44 tons. Dirk Stenzel, National Fleet Manager at CCEP DE:

According to the company, the optimized tare weight of the trailer makes the combination particularly suitable for demanding transport in beverage logistics. The fully electric semi-trailer is combined with a BergeRecotrail trailer, which is characterized by its low tare weight, thus enabling the use of electric tractors like the eActros 600 without compromise.

Exploiting Payload Potential
The central challenge in heavy goods transport lies in axle load, as with a maximum of 11.5 tons per axle, often payload potential remains unused with a conventional trailer. Coca-Cola has opted for a BergeRecotrail trailer with optimized axle spacing to fully utilize the potential of the combination and to exploit both load space and axle load equally, it is said.
Equipped with the SpeedCurtain tarpaulin from Schmitz Cargobull, the trailer allows for particularly fast loading and unloading, which is a crucial advantage in beverage transport.
