Delivery of 30 hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai cars to H2GO Rent: Building the future from an island
Through its H2IMPULSO program, Toyota Canarias establishes a collaboration with Maxo Inversiones in the shared objective of promoting the development of hydrogen as an energy vector in the Canary Islands, especially applied to mobility solutions.
Toyota Canarias, the authorized Toyota and Lexus dealer for the Canary Islands, has been present in the archipelago since 1973. They have added the Toyota Mirai (Future), the first mass-produced hydrogen sedan, to their Canarian lineup. Since its launch in 2014, the Toyota Mirai has surpassed 100,000 units sold worldwide. This milestone reflects the sustained growth of fuel cell technology and Toyota’s commitment to hydrogen as a solution for sustainable mobility.
Toyota is the world’s number one car manufacturer and the global leader in the marketing of electrified models, with more than 17 million electrified cars sold worldwide.
Toyota’s commitment to a CO2-free society began more than 20 years ago with the birth of hybrid technology. Today, Toyota’s electrified vehicles represent more than 70% of our sales in Europe.
Toyota’s range comprises over 100 passenger and commercial vehicle models and is found in virtually every environment across 170 countries and regions. Toyota believes that no single option can meet the needs of all these users, as there is no one-size-fits-all solution for decarbonizing transportation, since every location and user has different requirements.
For Toyota, multi-technology is not just a business strategy; it represents real-life options, a driving force behind enabling any user to travel responsibly and affordably. This is only possible with a comprehensive range of solutions tailored to the diverse realities of the market.
At Toyota, we believe that the mobility of the future must be clean, efficient, and accessible. Climate change and the need to reduce emissions demand innovative solutions that go beyond conventional electrification. In this context, hydrogen emerges as a strategic pillar for achieving carbon neutrality and building a more sustainable society.
Its advantages are clear: rapid refueling, allowing a fuel cell vehicle to be refueled in 3 to 5 minutes; a long range, similar to that of traditional engines, ideal for heavy transport and long distances; and versatility, as it can be applied to cars, trucks, buses, ships, and even stationary power generation systems.
Fuel cell vehicles contribute to zero emissions in the local environment since FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles) only emit water vapor with the consequent positive impact on urban air quality, in addition to energy independence with the local production of green hydrogen and the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels.
At Toyota, we believe that the promotion of hydrogen as a driver of change for the decarbonization of mobility has a great capacity for economic and social transformation, which is expressed in the promotion of skilled employment, technological innovation, and the development of sustainable infrastructure.
