Den Bosch, The Netherlands: garbage trucks running on electricity and on hydrogen.

Petrol, diesel and biogas. The cars of the Waste Service in Den Bosch are not yet green enough. Two cars will be added, one on electricity and one on hydrogen. As a trial, costs: 800,000 euros.

The test with two new cars has everything to do with emission-free (no CO emissions)2) logistics transport in the city centre from March 2025. Because the current collection vehicles of the Waste Service are not emission-free and there is little experience with waste trucks that run on electricity or hydrogen, one of each is purchased.

Choice

The municipality is also unable to estimate at this time what it would ‘mean for logistics’ at the large environmental station Treurenburg and the waste collection.

Battery or Hydrogen

With the current knowledge and experience, it is not possible to make a choice in this regard.

“That is why we want to run a pilot with both vehicles to gain experience”.

Both battery and hydrogen vehicles defend the choice to spend eight tons for that. In the end, one type is chosen. Thanks for staying up to date with Hydrogen Central.

Routes

According to the municipality, for example, electric collection vehicles are heavier than the other collection vehicles. The weight of both vehicles to be purchased will play a role in the routes that the cars will drive.
