DH2 Energy receives Integrated Environmental Authorization for its Hysencia green hydrogen plant – Spain.
DH2 Energy, developer of large-scale renewable hydrogen plants and independent producer, has received the Integrated Environmental Authorization for the Hysencia plant with 35 MW of electrolysis capacity and 49 MWp of photovoltaic power, located in Aragon.
Hysencia thus becomes one of the few commercial renewable hydrogen production projects that have this permit in Spain.
This project was already the winner in the first European renewable hydrogen auction recently concluded and in which the European Commission only selected seven projects out of the 132 presented from all over Europe.
Powerful development portfolio
Raquel Fernández Corzo, Director of Renewable Hydrogen Project Development in Spain at DH2 Energy, said:
Obtaining the Integrated Environmental Authorization is a milestone in the Hysencia project and in the powerful development portfolio of DH2 Energy. Hysencia is one of the most advanced commercial-scale renewable hydrogen production plants in Spain.
“This plant has a clear territorial vocation, with a very positive impact in Aragon, both during the construction stage and subsequently, when the clean energy vector that is green hydrogen is generated,” highlighted Fernández Corzo.
DH2 Energy will begin construction of the project in early 2025 and its facilities will occupy an area of about 100 hectares in Plasencia del Monte, in the Huesca municipality of La Sotonera.
Self-consumption plant
The self-consumption photovoltaic solar energy plant will be installed there, which will produce 99 gigawatt hours annually, which will provide energy to the electrolyzer . In addition, the project has a 10 MW grid connection.
About 1,700 tons of renewable hydrogen will be generated per year, which will avoid the emission of about 16,000 tons of CO₂ per year. The hydrogen produced will be supplied to the mobility and industrial sectors.
In particular, Hysencia’s location is optimal for supplying renewable hydrogen in the transportation sector , since the plant is located near different land communication axes, such as the railway stop in the same town of Plasencia del Monte, for which the Huesca-Canfranc line passes. .
First hydrogen trains
Aragón has a long track record in its commitment to the energy vector of the present and future, which is hydrogen, and in its support for its entire value chain through institutions.
It has reference organizations, such as the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, and a Hydrogen Master Plan , which has been prepared since 2007. In addition, one of the first hydrogen trains in Spain has been implemented in Aragon.
Renewable hydrogen plants
DH2 Energy is a company dedicated to the development of large-scale renewable hydrogen plants from the electrolysis of water and the production of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.
DH2 Energy is one of the largest developers of renewable hydrogen in Spain, with one of the largest portfolios of projects in development , according to the first national census of hydrogen projects carried out by the Spanish Hydrogen Association, AeH2.
Based in Madrid, DH2 Energy is present in the Iberian Peninsula and also in other markets such as France, Mexico and Uruguay.
