Dijon Métropole inaugurates the first of its two hydrogen stations at 100 million euros.

On the eve of welcoming the 800 delegates to the 2024 edition of the “Hydrogen Days in the Territories”, organized in Dijon by France Hydrogène, Dijon Métropole inaugurated its first green hydrogen production and distribution station on Monday June 24, 2024. . The commissioning of this station constitutes the first brick in a vast 100 million euro project aimed at converting the fleet of buses and household waste bins into carbon-free vehicles.

Already, two hydrogen-powered garbage trucks are circulating in the Dijon area. Two more should complete the park by the end of the year. And by 2035, 22 tippers and the entire bus fleet (i.e. 50 to 60 vehicles) will have switched to hydrogen or electric.

The inauguration took place in the presence of François Rebsamen, President of Dijon Métropole, Marie-Guite Dufay, President of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, Marion Deridder-Blondel, President of Engie Solutions Hydrogène, Dominique Darne, President of ‘Inthy and Philippe Boucly, President of France Hydrogène.

François Rebsamen, mayor of Dijon, said:

Faced with the climate emergency, green hydrogen is emerging as an energy of the future. We are proud to carry out this ambitious project with our partners, a true model for France and for Europe.

The Dijon station will reduce CO2 emissions by 1,200 tonnes per year, the equivalent of 10 million kilometers of city car. This is the first French hydrogen project to integrate such a large fleet of heavy vehicles from a community.

The station is equipped with three pumps with an outlet pressure of 350 bars. It has a daily production capacity of 430kg per day, the equivalent of refueling around twenty heavy vehicles per day.

Present to salute the Dijon project, and to recall the significant support of the Region (2, 6 million euros), Marie-Guite Dufay was pleased to see the completion of a new large-scale hydrogen ecosystem in the regional territory, after those of Auxerre and Belfort:

Marie-Guite Dufay, regional president, said:

Well done Dijon! You had to have courage to embark on this adventure. Because innovation is very expensive.

“If we want to increase demand and encourage other communities to follow suit, costs will have to fall. I appeal to the State, which has a very strong ambition in terms of decarbonization, supported by Europe. And I tell him: “Don’t forget heavy mobility. Now is not the time to give up.
