Energinet – The capacity sale for Danish Hydrogen Backbone 1 is open
Energinet has opened the capacity sale, and market participants can now register and book capacity in Denmark’s future hydrogen infrastructure. The opening marks an important milestone towards the establishment of the infrastructure. Now it is up to the market – only through their bookings can the booking requirement of 0.50 GW (lower heating value) be met, allowing the next steps to be initiated.
Market commitment determines the next steps
For Energinet’s hydrogen infrastructure project Danish Hydrogen Backbone 1 (DHB1) to be realised as planned, the booking requirement must be fulfilled. This means that market participants must now step forward and submit their concrete hydrogen capacity needs to ensure progress. The booking requirement is politically determined at 0.50 GW in lower heating value (0.59 GW in higher heating value), and Energinet is offering a total of 2.7 GW in lower heating value (3.24 GW in higher heating value) in the capacity sale.

Booking capacity in DHB1 and Germany
For the Danish capacity sale in DHB1, the PRISMA platform is used, and this is where market participants can both register and request capacity. Here, they and other interested parties can also follow developments in the capacity sale. A request for capacity must be submitted no later than 1 December 2026. Energinet will provide regular updates on the overall booking situation during the period in which the capacity sale is open. The first update is expected to be shared during spring 2026. For reasons of confidentiality, individual market participants’ enquiries or registrations will not be made public.
Market participants wishing to book capacity at the border point with Germany must, in addition to booking capacity in DHB1, also reserve capacity in the adjoining German hydrogen infrastructure. On 6 January 2026, the German organisation Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft (BDEW) published a standard contract, which will be used in Germany to collect capacity reservations.
