European Energy wins Danish award in Capgemini Nordic Sustainability Tech Award for its Kassø e-methanol project
The Danish award recognises the Kassø facility’s contribution to developing commercially viable green fuel solutions for sectors where direct electrification is not feasible.
– European Energy has been named the Danish winner in the Capgemini Nordic Sustainability Tech Award for its Kassø e-methanol facility.
– The Kassø project is recognised for integrating large-scale solar power, carbon utilisation and electro-based fuel production to deliver green e-methanol.
– The award highlights the facility’s role in providing scalable green fuel solutions for sectors that cannot be directly electrified.
Copenhagen, Denmark, 26th of November, 2026 – European Energy has been named the Danish winner in the Capgemini Nordic Sustainability Tech Award 2025 for its Kassø e-methanol project, recognising the facility’s contribution to advancing sustainable technologies and delivering new green fuel solutions.
The Capgemini Nordic Sustainability Tech Award highlights organisations in the Nordic region that apply technology to support the green transition, with evaluation criteria covering scalability, technological innovation, greenhouse gas impact, broader ESG effects, and business viability.
The Kassø e-methanol facility in southern Denmark is the world’s first large-scale commercial plant producing e-methanol from renewable electricity, biogenic CO₂ and water. The project demonstrates how large-scale solar capacity, carbon utilisation, and electro-based fuel production can be combined in a single integrated system. The facility supplies e-methanol to customers in sectors where direct electrification is not feasible.
Emil Vikjær-Andresen, EVP and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy, says:
The recognition for Kassø underlines the relevance of large-scale green fuel production as part of the energy transition,
“The project shows how renewable power and carbon utilisation technologies can be integrated in practice and made available to sectors with limited alternatives to fossil fuels.”
The Kassø facility is connected to a 304 MW solar park and is designed to produce up to 42,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually. The e-methanol produced at the facility meets European RFNBO requirements and has obtained ISCC EU certification.
The award follows continued deployment of Power-to-X solutions across European Energy’s portfolio, including the development of next-generation technologies such as electric Steam Methane Reforming (e-SMR) for green methanol and hydrogen production.
