Extreme E And ENOWA achieve major green hydrogen milestone at Hydro X Prix

Extreme E And ENOWA achieve major green hydrogen milestone at Hydro X Prix.

Using 700kg of green hydrogen supplied by ENOWA, the Official Green Hydrogen Power Partner of Extreme E, and fuel cell technology supplied by Kaizen Clean Energy, the Dumfries and Galloway race site was able to use the 11 Megawatt-hours (MWh) produced to support car charging, catering, and event control power.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said:

Extreme E’s commitment to sustainability is a key pillar of our pioneering racing series.

“The 11MWh produced across the Hydro X Prix is equivalent to the energy required to power 1,000 homes in the UK, for a day, or charge the electric vehicles at the race site more than 350 times. That is hugely impressive as we continue to highlight how green hydrogen power and innovations can be best used for the long-term benefit of the planet.

“Our vision is always to bring technology to the forefront that can make a dramatic shift in how we approach sustainability to improve the planet, and Extreme E has always been a pioneer in developing innovative solutions to combat the climate crisis. This is particularly in our motorsport industry-leading race site infrastructure, including the use of green hydrogen in remote locations produced by ENOWA’s Hydrogen Fuel Cell System.

“How we utilise sustainable technologies across our racing calendar demonstrates a true clean energy alternative to diesel generators.”

Robert Meaney, Co-founder of Kaizen Clean Energy, added:

Extreme E and ENOWA’s foresight and commitment to advance renewable technology is a testimony to their teams’ goals to produce a truly sustainable racing series.

Extreme E has achieved 25MWh with green hydrogen and fuel cells in its last four X Prix and plans to increase energy production further at the upcoming double-header in Sardinia.

ENOWA is the renewable energy, water and hydrogen subsidiary at NEOM and, since 2022, has been a part of a pioneering and multi-year relationship with Extreme E. Kaizen Clean Energy provides integral support in order to deliver a pioneering hydrogen microgrid solution to the Extreme E series.

In 2025, Extreme E will evolve into Extreme H – the world’s first hydrogen racing series – as the championship continues to break barriers in sustainable technologies and motorsport.
