Fire brigade responds to fire at hydrogen filling station in Gersthofen – Germany.
It was only opened about a week ago and now it is closed again. A fire broke out at the new hydrogen filling station in the freight transport center in Gersthofen on Tuesday morning. According to the police, a loud bang was heard in parts of Gersthofen at around 10:10 am There was apparently an explosion, which caused a large flame to ignite. Fortunately, the fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish the fire on Frankfurter Strasse. No one was injured.

According to the police, it is still unclear what caused the fire. As is usual in such cases, the Augsburg criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire. According to the current state of the investigation, it is assumed that there was a technical defect. The filling station was built by the gas specialist Tyczka Hydrogen from Geretsried near Munich.

Hydrogen filling station in the GVZ opened just about a week ago
The Gersthofen fire brigade reported that around 20 firefighters arrived on Tuesday morning. In addition, forces from the fire brigades in Neusäß and Täfertingen, as well as the district fire inspectorate, the rescue service and the police were deployed. The firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding buildings. According to the Gersthofen fire brigade, they were on duty for around four hours.
As reported, the hydrogen filling station has only been in operation for a few days . The investment expanded an existing filling station owned by Baywa and Kloiber , where trucks could already fill up with diesel, LNG and LPG. The project was funded with two million euros by the Free State as part of its hydrogen strategy.
