Gen-Hy wins Emerging Solution Award at Hydrogénies

Gen-Hy, a French start-up offering innovative solutions for the production of green hydrogen, has been awarded the Emerging Solution prize at the Hydrogène 2024 awards. The prize was awarded to Sébastien Le Pollès, CEO of Gen-Hy, in recognition of the zero-gap stack with AEM membrane project developed by the Gen-Hy teams. The start-up is continuing its development to make green hydrogen an ecological and economical alternative.

Gen-Hy has developed a new generation of electrolysers incorporating its unique, innovative and patented AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) technology. During electrolysis, the Gen-AEM® membrane allows anions to pass through while remaining gas-tight, resulting in very pure hydrogen. Gen-Hy has also designed its stacks (hydrogen generators) around the Gen-AEM® membrane in a zero-gap architecture, achieving an efficiency of 85%. Gen-Hy also obtains low-cost hydrogen because no rare materials are used in the composition of its zero-gap stacks, combining environmentally-friendly and rational production at a contained price. These stacks combine the advantages of alkaline and PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) technologies. The company also plans to offer manufacturers of alkaline electrolysers the possibility of integrating its membrane in order to benefit from all these benefits.

The commissioning of Gen-Hy’s 8,000 m2 plant at Allenjoie in the Montbéliard region, scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2025, will enable large-scale production of Gen-AEM® membranes.

The Hydrogen Awards ceremony was held at the 25th Assises Européennes de la Transition Énergétique (AETE), a major annual event organised by ADEME. The Hydrogen Awards recognise innovative projects and solutions, as well as the involvement of teams and partners from companies in the hydrogen sector and local authorities.
