Development of hydrogen infrastructure
The transmission system operators have carried out a market survey for the transport needs of hydrogen. This has resulted in a high demand, which has been proven by concrete implementation intentions by the project promoters and now forms the basis for the subsequent grid calculation.
In a separate hydrogen modelling, the Federal Network Agency instructs transmission system operators to identify those natural gas pipelines that can be converted from natural gas to hydrogen. This infrastructure is intended to enable the rapid development of a hydrogen network.
Greater consideration of climate protection goals
The changes demanded by the Federal Network Agency are also intended to take climate targets into account. In the Gas Network Development Plan 2022-2032, a concept is to be developed on how the requirements of the Climate Protection Act, in particular the greenhouse gas neutrality prescribed for 2045, can be implemented.
By assigning the grid expansion measures to the respective consumers, an examination of the proportionality of the identified grid expansion can be carried out, also against the background of possible legal changes.

Basis for gas network development
The scenario framework forms the basis for gas network planning up to 2032. It was prepared by the transmission system operators, consulted with the public and then submitted to the Federal Network Agency for confirmation.
On the basis of the scenario framework, the transmission system operators are now developing the Gas Network Development Plan 2022-2032. This will also be consulted with the public and will require examination by the Federal Network Agency.
