Germany investing up to 290M Euros to launch the Innovation and Technology Center for Hydrogen (ITZ H2).
Wissing: Implementation for Innovation and Technology Center Hydrogen can start.
Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport:
Hydrogen is the opportunity to make large parts of mobility and the economy climate-neutral.
“Until we can optimally use hydrogen as an energy carrier, we still have to invest a great deal in research and development. That’s what we do. The feasibility study for an innovation and technology centre confirms the BMDV’s approach.”
“This means that we can now move on to implementation. Up to 290 million euros are planned as start-up financing from the BMDV for the four locations and the federal states want to provide additional support to the centres. In the fight against climate change, we focus on innovation, science and openness to technology.”
The Innovation and Technology Centre for Hydrogen (ITZ) is intended to support companies in their development activities in the transport sector in the future. In particular, this concerns offers in the highly specialized field of testing and certification, which are not yet available on the market.
With its services, the centre is also intended to support international cooperation to set standards and, in particular, to offer small and medium-sized enterprises a development environment in order to position themselves for international competition.
The ITZ is to be built at the four locations Chemnitz, Duisburg, Pfeffenhausen and a North German cluster for ship and aviation applications (Bremen/Bremerhaven, Hamburg and Stade). For this purpose, the BMDV is providing start-up financing of up to 290 million euros.
