Green hydrogen – Denmark proposes the first outline of the new power-to-x strategy.

The Danish Parliament and its new national Power-to-X (PtX) strategy pave the way for a public tender worth DKK 1.25 billion (EUR 170 million) to speed up the conversion of electricity into green hydrogen and other e-fuels over ten years.

The large wind resources and the massive expansion of offshore wind capacity conditions Denmark as the perfect producer of green hydrogen. With the country’s well-suitable landscape, the main goal is to push for the production and use of green hydrogen in fossil-fuel-filled sectors like shipping, aviation, and heavy transport.

URGENT DEMAND OF THE DEAL

The steps, which will be taken in the process of establishing the Danish hydrogen infrastructure, are developed alongside with a task force who are assigned to guide the project developers and authorities alike.

Europe is on an intensive hunt for alternative fossil energy, especially when it comes to detaching itself from Russian natural gas; to speed up the process, all efforts in establishing a possible tender in 2023 will be taken.

Along with the establishment of a task force, Invest in Denmark has helped facilitate more than 1GW projects, among others, the projects of H2 Energy and Lhyfe. The public-private collaboration and its strong commitment encourages international businesses to establish their plants and projects in Denmark.

Dan Jørgensen Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, said:

With this deal, we strengthen the climate, the Danish industry, and green supply security.

” I’m very pleased that we have achieved broad political agreement on setting the target so high that Denmark is able to play more than just a national role in the development and production of new fuels.”

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DANISH HYDROGEN INFRASTRUCTURE

The goal is to place Denmark as a leading European PtX nation by building 4 to 6 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity by 2030. The signatory parties agree that the Danish PtX market should set the standard for a clear Europe-wide regulation in the field.

Altogether, the PtX strategy will provide better opportunities for cabling arrangements that connect wind and solar directly to the PtX facilities. It will further provide multiple export opportunities for Denmark to neighboring countries like Germany. Thanks for staying up to date with Hydrogen Central.

The new strategy’s objective of reaching a 4 -6 gigawatt of electrolysis capacity by 2030 is expected to entail reductions of CO2 emission between 2,5 – 4,0 million tonnes.
