Green Hydrogen – Home Power Solutions, HPS, receives “Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Prize” for world’s first year-round electricity storage system for private homes.
HPS Home Power Solutions GmbH (HPS), provider of picea, the world’s first year-round electricity storage system for homes based on green hydrogen, has been awarded the “Innovation Award Berlin Brandenburg” out of 168 applications. The award recognizes innovations from the capital region that are unique in the world and offer solutions to global challenges.
Antje Vargas, Laudator and entrepreneur presented the award on behalf of the entire jury with the words:
Those who live in an environmentally friendly way live in the future, not in the past.
“And that’s sexy. Just like the product we want to award. I don’t just want to honor HPS here, but on behalf of all of us, I want to thank you for developing this product for all of us. We are all very proud of you.”

About picea
picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for single- and two-family homes. The surpluses of a photovoltaic system achieved on sunny days are stored as green hydrogen and made available again in the form of electricity and heat in the dark season.
In this way, picea achieves a FULL CO2-free electricity supply all year round and also reduces heating costs. A picea system avoids about 3 tons of CO2 per year and binds a co2 amount like 130 spruces. HPS began delivering the first picea systems in 2019.
Contract manufacturing began in 2020, so that larger quantities can be produced and delivered from 2021. picea has won several prestigious awards, most recently the Handelsblatt Energy Award 2021.
