Green Hydrogen Hub advances with the signing of a new pre-contract – PECEM.

Comerc Eficiência and Casa dos Ventos signed, a pre-contract with Complexo do Pecém (CIPP S/A), in Ceará, for the installation of a plant for the production of hydrogen and green ammonia with its first phase scheduled to start operations in 2026.

The project, which has been under work since 2021, now moves on to the environmental licensing and basic project phase to begin its implementation, which will be divided into stages. When at full operational capacity, the project will have a capacity of up to 2.4 GW of electrolysis, producing more than 1,000 tons of hydrogen per day, enabling the delivery of 2.2 million tons of green ammonia per year.

The companies Comerc Eficiência and Casa dos Ventos had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Ceará and another with the Pecém Complex itself (CIPP S/A) to ensure their participation in the Project of the H2V Hub of Ceará.

The plant, which will occupy an area of up to 60 hectares in the Ceará SPA, will avoid the emission of up to 430,000 tons of CO2 per month, through the generation of Green Hydrogen instead of Gray Hydrogen, which emits 2.4 kg of CO2 for each kilo of Ash Ammonia produced, thus bringing a significant reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG).

The Secretary of Economic Development and Labor (Sedet), Maia Júnior, highlighted at the ceremony the importance of the return of investments of the House of Winds in the State of Ceará.

Maia Júnior, said:

Casa dos Ventos is one of the largest energy investors in Brazil and will now be green hydrogen.

“And this return is quite significant for us, after a long work of the teams of the Sedet System led by the then governor Camilo Santan.

Lucas Araripe, director of new business at Casa dos Ventos, said:

Ceará is located in a region of efficient and abundant energy resources, combined with a strategic position for foreign trade.

“These factors enable us to export our renewable energy in the form of green energy in a very competitive way globally.”

Marcel Haratz, President of Comerc Eficiência, said:

Green hydrogen has immense potential to be, if not the main one, but one of the main agents of the global energy transition towards net zero.

“Here in Brazil, with the abundance of energy sources such as solar and wind, this scenario is extremely favorable to put us as one of the greatest players in the world. And, therefore, it is a great pleasure to have Comerc Eficiência at the forefront of an innovative project that takes another step towards a sustainable economy, opening up new possibilities for generating wealth for the country and creating thousands of jobs.”

This is the third pre-contract signed for the Hydrogen Hub of Ceará, which also has 24 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed with Brazilian and foreign companies, from February 2021 until today.

Danilo Serpa, president of The Pecém Complex (CIPP S/A), said:

We are very pleased with the signing of this pre-contract concluded with Casa do Ventos and Comerc.

“It is the recognition of important companies in the market. That is, more players join this strategic energy transition project that we have been developing here in Ceará since the beginning of last year. The Green Hydrogen Hub of Ceará and Pecém is already a reality”.

About The Pecém Complex

The result of a joint venture formed by the Government of Ceará and the Port of Rotterdam – the largest and main port in Europe, complexo do Pecém (CIPP S/A) is a space to boost the economy in Ceará, as it promotes industrial, economic and social development for the state and the northeast of Brazil.

With more than 19,000 hectares of area, the Pecém Complex has robust infrastructure, privileged geographical location and also emerges as the house of Hydrogen Green (H2V) in Brazil, since it houses the first projects in the area in the country.

The Pecém Complex, linked to the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor, is composed of three major fronts: Industrial Area, which has some of the main manufacturing units in northeastern Brazil; Porto do Pecém, a world-class offshore terminal, which in 2021 moved more than 22 million tons; and CEPE Ceará, the first Export Processing Zone to operate in Brazil.
