GSA ’s transit bus program awards include first hydrogen fuel cell electric bus offerings.

The U.S. General Services Administration recently awarded 10 models of electric transit buses to five firms, including the first hydrogen fuel cell electric buses to be offered through GSA. The awards come as part of GSA’s ongoing efforts to advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s goal of achieving 100 percent zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) acquisitions by 2035.

Robin Carnahan, GSA Administrator

These awards are just the latest example of how building a clean energy future will mean more opportunities for small businesses, more good jobs for working families, and great value for our agency customers.

“We look forward to continuing to help our agency partners meet their missions with the latest zero-emission vehicle technology and leverage government buying power to create clean energy jobs across the country.”

Last week, as part of GSA’s new five year Transit Bus program, GSA awarded 10 different models of electric transit buses to five firms, including three small businesses.

Seven out of the ten new electric transit bus offerings are battery electrics, and the remaining three are GSA’s first hydrogen fuel cell electric bus options, which combine oxygen and hydrogen to produce electricity to power the electric motor(s).

Charlotte Phelan, GSA’s assistant commissioner for the Office of Travel, Transportation, and Logistics.

GSA continuously works with our suppliers to offer the federal marketplace the most current, commercially-available, advanced technology vehicles resulting in a greener, more fuel efficient fleet.

“Adding zero-emission buses expands our overall inventory and is just one more way we are making strides to give our customers a range of vehicle solutions,”

These electric buses seat 34 to 46 passengers and are available for federal agencies to lease through GSA or purchase directly through GSA’s AutoChoice ordering portal.

Many of the new buses offered have options for innovative charging apparatuses such as overhead 300kW pantograph chargers, wireless inductive chargers, as well as DC fast chargers and ultra-high -power DC fast chargers. Thanks for staying up to date with Hydrogen Central.
