H2Cluster brought together the Nordic region’s ambitious hydrogen players in Gothenburg.

Norway & Sweden – stronger together on the future of hydrogen solutions was the title of the seminar held in collaboration with Powercell and Statkraft. The event was part of the largest Norwegian business delegation of all time to Sweden, under the auspices of Innovation Norway.

The aim of the hydrogen seminar was to strengthen future cooperation between Norwegian and Swedish actors in hydrogen for transport and industry.

The hydrogen session began with a visit to the factory of the fuel cell manufacturer and cluster partner Powercell AB. CEO Richard Berkling talked about the company’s development and clarified that the hydrogen economy is already here.

Richard Berkling, CEO, Powercell Ab, said:

We will see substantial growth in the years to come, which far exceeds underlying growth in the general economy.

“We in this industry have a great responsibility to manage this growth in order to contribute to less greenhouse gas emissions”

Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre also attended the visit, and saw production of fuel cell stacks and systems for stationary and mobile applications.

The Minister informed of a new joint declaration specifying several areas of cooperation between Norway and Sweden, including offshore wind, carbon management, hydrogen, batteries and minerals.

He was clear that we will structure the cooperation between Norway and Sweden, at all levels. The business sector must be in the driving seat and lead the way, but both Sweden’s and Norway’s business and innovation policies will support cooperation.

Jan Christian Vestre, Minister Of Trade And Industry, said:

We must now work strategically together with the private sector, politics, research and development, academia and capital.

“We have tremendous opportunities to write history together – as a leader in hydrogen. Not only in the Nordic countries, but globally. We can save the world a little bit!”

Leading hydrogen players in the programme

The program in Lindholmen Science Park was packed with engaged speakers from leading Nordic hydrogen actors. Interesting and inspiring posts about the companies’ ambitions, initiatives and ongoing collaborative projects testify to the fact that this industry already has extensive cross-border cooperation.

Participants took the opportunity to make new contacts and discuss future solutions and cooperation. The players presented showed ambitions to take a leading role in the transition to renewable energy and be leading suppliers of solutions for the future of hydrogen solutions.

Bjørn Ottar Elseth, cluster leader at H2Cluster, is very pleased with the hydrogen seminar conducted in connection with the business delegation.

Elseth says:

The seminar uncovered great opportunities for more cooperation between Norway and Sweden and also the rest of the Nordic region.

“The panel of speakers pointed to the need to scale up the solutions and create good business models for future profitability. There was also a desire for more effective and harmonised instruments and further development of the safety standard,”

H2Cluster is initially looking forward to export efforts towards the German market and eventually other European and global markets.

“I’ll see you in September at the H2ValueChain event,” concludes the cluster leader.
