H2Trac sells first hydrogen tractor to Almere City Farm in the Netherlands.
[LandbouwMechanisatie] City farm Almere has bought the first hydrogen tractor from H2Trac. The Arnhem manufacturer will build the tractor in the coming months and wants to deliver it in February 2022.De Stadsboerderij is a biodynamic company with cows and 120 hectares of arable farming and vegetable cultivation.
According to Tom Saat, owner of the Stadsboerderij, the hydrogen tractor fits exactly into the company’s plans.
We want to be self-sufficient. Our company is a recycling company. As clean and pure as possible. A major system error is diesel consumption.
“Hydrogen has been on our wish list for years, but nobody was able to realize it. We are therefore pleased that we are the first in the Netherlands with this innovative hydrogen tractor”
De Almeler wants to produce the hydrogen on its own company. The electricity for this is generated by the solar park at the former Braambergen landfill site in Almere.
Diesel/Electric
Manufacturer H2Trac previously built the EOX-175 , a diesel/electric tractor with an adjustable track width. This tractor is as good as finished, but is still being tested. The hydrogen tractor is basically the same as the diesel/electric variant. The combustion engine makes way for a fuel cell and hydrogen tanks.
Earlier, Peter-Jan van Ham, co-owner of H2Trac, announced that the production of a hydrogen tractor would be postponed for the time being, addingL
We don’t know to what extent hydrogen will catch on. For the first three to four years, farmers may simply want to have a diesel tractor
Now that the first hydrogen tractor has been sold, H2Trac will start production. The Arnhem manufacturer expects to deliver the tractor in February 2022. H2Trac is also examining whether the hydrogen tractor is suitable for applications in infrastructure and road construction
