Hamburg – Hydrogen: Environmentalists propose a new location.
How can the Port of Hamburg become one of the most important transshipment points for green energy? The Senate is planning a large-scale hydrogen production in Moorburg. Environmentalists are now proposing a new location because Moorburg might not be enough.
Malte Siegert, head of NABU Hamburg, said:
We have a turning point – and that also has consequences for the port.
The city has a huge area on the Hohe Schaar on the Süderelbe. This is ideal for producing, processing and storing “green hydrogen” there, according to NABU and BUND.
Port motorway to be built there
Problem at this location: The A26 Ost motorway, which is to connect the A7 with the A1, is also to run on the Hohe Schaar. However, environmentalists have been calling for a long time to do without the motorway.
Especially since new cost estimates of the federal government assume around two billion euros for the A26 East – initially there was talk of less than one billion.
Environmentalists propose third Köhlbrandröhre as a replacement
As an alternative, the environmental protection organizations propose that the planned Köhlbrand tunnel could get three tubes instead of the previously planned only two. At the request of NDR 90.3, however, the economic authority stated that it was planning to build “green hydrogen” in Moorburg and not on the Hohe Schaar.
