Air Products and Chemicals Inc will be Hexagon Energy Materials’ key technology provider for the Pedirka Blue Hydrogen Project.

Located in the Northern Territory’s Pedirka Basin, Hexagon plans to use coal as a feedstock to a gasification plant and convert it to produce hydrogen, using carbon capture and sequestration to achieve zero emissions.

Air Products is a provider and operator of industrial gas facilities with a broad experience in gasification and hydrogen production; its agreement with Hexagon will see it apply its expertise to the Pedirka project.

Hexagon has also entered into an agreement with Technip Energies subsidiary Genesis to provide engineering support during the project’s pre-feasibility study.

Hexagon said the combination of Air Products’ technology and Genesis’ engineering capability will provide the project with “world class solution providers who have a track record of delivering successful blue hydrogen projects”.

Charles Whitfield, Hexagon Chairman.

We are excited to access the experience of organisations of such global significance in the hydrogen space.

“Their technical and operational experience will be extremely useful in the accelerated planning and development of the project.”

Hexagon said blue hydrogen produced at Pedirka could be used for either domestic or export markets, and the company intends to use the project to enable future green hydrogen developments.
