HPS Home Power Solutions expands its product range: For the first time hydrogen storage systems for commercial and multi-family houses.
HPS Home Power Solutions (HPS), provider of picea, the year-round electricity storage system based on green hydrogen in the building sector, has expanded its product portfolio. With the newly developed control and energy management unit “Förster”, up to ten picea can be interconnected. As a result, a so-called “multi-picea” can for the first time also supply buildings with greater power requirements such as commercial properties or apartment buildings with solar power from their own roof all year round. The storage capacity is up to 15,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.
HPS is constantly working on expanding the performance of its products and opening up new market segments. The cascade approach of multi-picea allows individual adaptation for different applications. This means that both performance and storage capacity can be varied. By using always the same units from picea, additional economies of scale come into play in production and enable production costs to be reduced in the future.
Zeyad Abul-Ella – co-founder and CEO of HPS:
With multi-picea we have responded to the great demand and developed a solution that offers higher storage capacities and performance in the building sector.
“In commercial real estate and multi-family houses, consumers are able to use their solar power in full even in winter by means of flexible scaling of our tried and tested year-round power storage system”
“We are thus making a further contribution to the decarbonisation of the building sector.”
First multi-picea in Meckenheim
The company Josef Küpper Söhne GmbH from Meckenheim has realized the first commercial property in Germany with a multi-picea. Five picea systems store the excess solar power from the 98 kilowatt peak solar system installed on the roof and facade and thus cover the power and heat requirements even in winter.
Peter Küpper – Managing Director of Josef Küpper Söhne GmbH:
We pursue an independent and clean energy supply for our customers and ourselves, because the time is ripe for the entry into a CO2-free society.
“Therefore, when designing the new company location in Meckenheim, we decided on the multi-picea long-term storage system from HPS”
About picea
picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for single and two-family houses. The Förster product expansion allows cascading even for larger power and storage requirements. The surpluses generated by a photovoltaic system on sunny days are stored as green hydrogen and made available again in the form of electricity and heat during the darker months of the year. In this way, picea achieves a full supply of CO2-free electricity all year round and also reduces heating costs.
How does multi-picea work?
A higher-level control and energy management unit, called the forester, establishes communication between the individual picea, distributes the energy evenly and records the energy flows in the building. In this way, the forester enables the individual picea to work together in one application, the multi-picea solution. picea is the Latin term for spruce. A picea avoids around three tons of CO2 per year. This corresponds to the amount of CO2 that 130 spruce trees bind each year. The forester takes care of up to ten picea. Thanks to the intelligent and higher-level energy management, the storage of solar energy in summer and the electricity output in winter are optimally distributed to the individual systems, which ensures the longevity of the individual modules.
About HPS Home Power Solutions
HPS develops and produces integrated systems for the storage and use of solar energy for single and two-family houses. The Förster product expansion allows cascading even for larger power and storage requirements. On the basis of green hydrogen, HPS offers solutions for decarbonising the building sector. The Berlin company was founded in 2014 by Zeyad Abul-Ella and Dr. Henrik Colell and stands for security, independence and sustainability in the decentralized power supply. The world’s first HPS system picea is power storage, heating support and living space ventilation in one compact product. A picea system avoids around three tons of CO2 per year and binds as much CO2 as 130 spruce trees. picea has won several prestigious awards, most recently the Handelsblatt Energy Award 2020,
