Hydrogen Economy – Castilla-La Mancha is positioned in Europe as a benchmark in the generation, storage and transportation of hydrogen to attract investments and generate development

Brussels (Belgium), October 7, 2024.- The Second Vice President, José Manuel Caballero, has confirmed from Brussels that the Government of Castilla-La Mancha will collaborate with Tech Tour Europe to position the region as a European benchmark in the generation, storage and transport of hydrogen. He said this after a meeting attended by Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, chief executive officer of Hydrogen Europe; William Stevens, general manager of Tech Tour Europe SA; and Carmen Font, general manager of FontCorporation.

Caballero announced,

We are defining this path of collaboration, which will be very important to continue positioning our region as an international reference in hydrogen,

At this meeting, all parties have shared the importance of Castilla-La Mancha in this matter, due to its location, its geographical and climatic characteristics, which position the region as a reference in clean energy; and due to the firm commitment of the regional Administration to facilitate and attract investments around hydrogen, which contribute to the development, well-being and structuring of the territory.

Caballero stressed,

We want to lead, at national and European level, these conversations, these meetings and these agreements with the sector, with international organisations and with investors,

The second vice-president thanked the participants in this meeting for their interest in taking advantage of the competitive opportunity that the region has in this area and reaffirmed the work of the regional government to attract investments and generate development around hydrogen.

Castilla-La Mancha as the epicentre of hydrogen development

Caballero stressed,

Our objective is to continue positioning our autonomous community as a key region in the European Union to attract opportunities derived from investment in hydrogen and energy development and as a strategic European centre for hydrogen,

In this sense, the second vice-president explained that the high percentage of hours of sunshine, the vast expanse of the territory and the wind, among other factors, allow Castilla-La Mancha to be the epicentre of the generation of this energy of the future.

On the other hand, the second vice president has highlighted that the region has hydrogen producers and investors and the headquarters of the National Hydrogen Centre in Puertollano, which has 13 laboratories and five auxiliary facilities that make it an international reference centre. For its part, Tech Tour Europe is a European community that has been bringing together the most attractive companies and investors in Europe and connecting them with the most promising entrepreneurs to establish smart partnerships and drive innovation during its 25 years of experience.

Castilla-La Mancha is an active member of Hydrogen Europe

Caballero concluded at this meeting.

Castilla La-Mancha is leading the way towards the global development of hydrogen in Europe

The second vice president recalled that Castilla-La Mancha is an active member of Hydrogen Europe, whose objective is to promote global carbon neutrality, accelerating the European hydrogen industry. In addition, the aim is to achieve the adoption of clean hydrogen as an energy vector and an abundant and affordable raw material with which to efficiently fuel the European net-zero emissions economy.

Hydrogen Europe brings together various stakeholders, large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises, national hydrogen associations, non-governmental organisations, regional public authorities and other relevant organisations that support the delivery of clean hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. In this regard, Castilla-La Mancha is working to further increase the relevant role of the region in this new line of development, around clean energy.
