New boost for local hydrogen economy: HyLand launches second round with 30 new regions.

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) announces a further 30 winners in the BMVI initiative: ‘HyLand – Hydrogen regions in Germany’, thus launching its second round.

The funding comes from the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP2): 15 HyExperts regions will each receive €400,000 for detailed concepts and also for an entire year, 15 HyStarter regions will be provided with expert and organisational support in the development of a regionally-tailored hydrogen concept as well as helped to build a network for local hydrogen stakeholders.

Berlin, 13.09.2021 – Another 30 German regions are focussing on hydrogen produced from renewable energies in the future – the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) announced the winners of the HyLand competition who had applied as HyExperts and HyStarters.

Because of the high demand in the competition as well as the high-quality applications, the original number of potential winners was increased from 20 to 30 regions. 15 HyExpert regions will receive 400,000 euros to prepare and calculate specific project ideas for hydrogen concepts.

The 15 winners of the HyStarter category will be provided with an advisory team of experts to develop a regional concept as well as a suitable network for building a green hydrogen economy

The ‘HyLand II’ initiative

The 15 winners of the HyStarter initiative will receive expert and organisational support for one year to develop a regionally-tailored hydrogen concept and a network for local hydrogen stakeholders.

The consortium managing the HyStarter category comprises the following companies: Energy Engineers GmbH, Spilett new technologies GmbH and Nuts One GmbH. The regional networks from politics, municipal companies, industry, commerce and society are jointly developing concept ideas and projects with a focus on transport applications.

The winners in the HyStarter category:

Bendorf town (Rhineland-Palatinate), Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), Ostfriesland (Lower Saxony), Westpfalz region (Rhineland-Palatinate), Perl (Saarland), Municipal union for the InterFranken industrial/business region (Bavaria), Altenburger Land district (Thuringia), Bad Bentheim (Lower Saxony), Eichstätt district (Bavaria), Wismar (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), Munich (Bavaria), Soest district (North Rhine-Westphalia), Göppingen district (Baden-Württemberg), Kulmbach district (Bavaria), Rheinhessen-Nahe (Rhineland-Palatinate)

In the HyExperts category, up to 400,000 euros in funding will be made available to each of the local authorities of the winning regions. Winners can use the funding to commission consultancy, planning and other services. The aim is to create an implementable overall concept for a regional hydrogen economy.
