Hydrogen filling station opened on Tempelhofer Weg in Berlin – H2 MOBILITY Germany.

The hydrogen station of H2 MOBILITY Germany at the Berlin Shell filling station at Tempelhofer Weg 102 was opened in the presence of Federal Minister Volker Wissing: From now on, fuel cell trucks, waste collectors and cars and light commercial vehicles will refuel with hydrogen (H2).

With over 850 kilograms of hydrogen, the Tempelhofer Weg hydrogen filling station is one of the most efficient stations in Europe and decisive for the further ramp-up of hydrogen mobility in the capital: Nowhere else is the number of H2 vehicles growing as fast as in Berlin.

Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport:

Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies are an important building block for climate-friendly mobility.

“The Federal Ministry is therefore funding the establishment of a basic network of publicly accessible hydrogen filling stations. We are thus making advance payments and creating the necessary conditions for climate-neutral road transport. In order for people and companies to increasingly rely on alternative drive systems, a robust and widely available infrastructure is required.”

“Hydrogen-powered vehicles will only be used if hydrogen filling stations are available nationwide. Together with industry, we are working to achieve this goal.”

At Tempelhofer Weg station, not only BSR’s waste collectors will refuel in the future, but also the fleet of “H2 move Berlin”, which is expected to grow to over 200 Toyota Mirai in the driving service by summer 2023. In spring 2023, the first hydrogen trucks will also be delivered to customers in Berlin, including the Hylane rental service.

Wolfgang Wüllhorst, Head of Fleet Management at Berliner Stadtreinigung:

Putting applications such as waste disposal on the road in a stable way every day for a changed climate-friendly, modern mobility requires enormous effort and a lot of expertise at all levels.

“I am delighted that the first really powerful H2 filling station is now connected to the grid in Berlin. This supports us in the transformation and provides a necessary infrastructural performance improvement for our operational processes.”

Thomas Mohnke, Senior Executive Partner SafeDriver Group, operator of the “H2 moves Berlin” fleet:

Hydrogen is also an ideal fuel for cars and vans in continuous use.

“Refuelling takes just a few minutes, the ranges are suitable for everyday use and multi-shift operation can be implemented at any time. Public transport authorities in particular depend on reliable operating conditions around the clock.”

After completion of the standard optimisation operation, the hydrogen filling station is now regularly available for refuelling at 350 bar (H2 buses and trucks) and at 700 bar (H2 cars, light commercial vehicles and waste collectors).

The Tempelhofer Weg hydrogen station is conveniently located near the A100 city motorway and the A113 near the BSR depot in the south of Berlin. It is the fifth hydrogen station in Berlin. Europe’s leading hydrogen filling station operator H2MOBILITY Deutschland is responsible for the construction and operation of the filling station. The filling station technology at the new H2 filling station comes from the industrial gases and technology company Air Liquide.

The construction of the hydrogen filling station was funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport with a total of 1.3 million euros as part of the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Project Management Jülich (PtJ).
