Hydrogen Ireland to sign Memorandum of Understanding with French counterpart
Hydrogen Ireland is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with its French counterpart France Hydrogène, on the eve of the World Hydrogen Technologies Convention, taking place in Dublin from October 21.
The MOU is being seen as a strategic handshake between both associations, designed to assist members to engage and accelerate the deployment of clean hydrogen by leveraging each country’s unique strengths.
Ambassador Céline Place, who will host an event for the MOU to be signed, says:
As we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, this Memorandum of Understanding illustrates the commitment of France and Ireland to work together in addressing the climate challenge.
“By strengthening our cooperation in research, innovation, renewable energy and industrial development, we are contributing to Europe’s collective ambition to make hydrogen a key pillar of a sustainable and resilient energy future”.
The new partnership will aid collaboration in a range of areas, including Information Exchange, Research & Development, Training & Skills, Events & Networking and Industrial Cooperation, as well as additional specific areas such as developing synergies in areas like offshore wind integration, ports, and heavy transport corridors.
CEO of Hydrogen Ireland Paul McCormack says it’s another milestone in the hydrogen journey:
This Memorandum of Understanding marks a strategic alignment between two hydrogen frontrunners – France, with its industrial scale, gigafactories and deep research and development capacity, and Ireland, with its abundant renewable energy, in particular offshore wind, and its growing hydrogen mobility ecosystem.
“Together we aim to shape a pan-European hydrogen ecosystem that’s not just visionary, but crucially, deployable”.
The terms of the MOU cover:
- Joint innovation: Academic and industrial collaboration on electrolysis, storage, and fuel cell breakthroughs
- Policy alignment: Shared advocacy for EU-level regulatory clarity, safety standards, and funding mechanisms
- Infrastructure synergy: Exploring cross-border hydrogen corridors, refuelling networks, and energy storage solutions
- Curtailment-to-hydrogen strategy: Ireland’s excess renewables can be converted into hydrogen—turning surplus into value
- Specific focus on the advancement of offshore hydrogen production, the development of integrated hydrogen corridors, and the strategic deployment of hydrogen storage infrastructure.
Chairperson of Hydrogen Ireland and Partner, Pinsent Masons Ireland LLP Garrett Monaghan and Head of International Relations at France Hydrogène Pierre Laboué will sign the document.
Labouésays, said:
This Memorandum of Understanding comes at a time when we must all focus our minds on reaching into the future, towards our shared goal of sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions
“It will be a valuable tool in aligning the goals of our international partners and comes as we prepare the excellent learning and networking opportunities offered at WHTC 2025 here in Dublin”.
