Hydrogen Oman confirms bp exit from Duqm Green Hydrogen Project as part of global portfolio shift
Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) has confirmed that bp has concluded its participation in the Duqm Green Hydrogen Project as part of the company’s global portfolio realignment.
MUSCAT : Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) announced that it is closely monitoring international reports regarding bp’s decision to withdraw from several green hydrogen ventures worldwide, including projects in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the Sultanate of Oman.
Hydrom, the national orchestrator of Oman’s Green Hydrogen Strategy and the entity mandated by Royal Decree to contract with developers on behalf of the government, confirmed that bp has concluded its participation in the Duqm Green Hydrogen Project as part of a wider restructuring of the company’s global portfolio. Despite this exit, Hydrom stressed that bp remains a committed partner in Oman’s energy transition through its continued involvement in the Hyport Duqm project and its broader energy investments across the Sultanate.
In line with Hydrom’s commitment to transparency and sector-wide clarity, the company had announced during the 2025 Green Hydrogen Summit Oman the conclusion of two projects: the bp project mentioned above, and the HyDuqm project, awarded in 2023 under Oman’s first hydrogen auction round. The latter was concluded by mutual agreement following an in-depth assessment of global renewable hydrogen offtake dynamics and investment frameworks.
Hydrom values the partnerships developed through both projects and reiterates that these changes do not reflect any shift in the fundamentals of Oman’s hydrogen strategy or the resilience of its national framework.
Today, seven awarded projects remain on track and are progressing according to the approved development timelines. Among these, the ACME Duqm Project has officially entered Phase 1 of construction, targeting an initial annual output of 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia and 17,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, with a scalable pathway toward 1.2 million tonnes per year in future phases.
