Hydrogen revolution or evolution? – H2 Poland.

In the energy transition, hydrogen has the potential to become a key driver. However, achieving this requires international cooperation, reduction of costs and integration with existing energy systems. Only then will we be able to unlock its full potential.

A key issue for pushing for regulatory and certification solutions for hydrogen is the cooperation of international organizations. –

Jose Oliveira Paulo, CEO of the Technology Cluster for Competitiveness in Energy, said:

They should work together to facilitate communication between industry, academia, research institutes, capital investors and the broader stakeholder community.

Establishing consistent standards and regulations is key to building confidence in hydrogen technologies and enabling their successful deployment. This is critical to accelerating solutions for hydrogen regulation and certification, and helping to build a skilled workforce for a clean hydrogen economy.

Another major challenge is to reduce the costs associated with hydrogen production, distribution and use. Veronika Vohlidkova, board member and executive director of the Czech Hydrogen Technology Platform, noted that in order to make progress, we need to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen technologies and reduce costs. – Relaxing regulations and adopting a more technology-neutral approach to low-carbon hydrogen are necessary steps to achieve maturity in the sector, V. Vohlidkova explained. Strict regulations can hinder projects, so a flexible approach is a key aspect.

Integration of clean hydrogen ecosystems with transforming energy systems is inevitable. In the CEE region, the 3 Seas initiative can play a key role. – The 3 Seas Council will work to make hydrogen available for widespread use in industry, energy and transportation as soon as possible, explains Jan Weiterschutz, president of the Slovak National Hydrogen Association. This initiative aims to accelerate the integration of hydrogen into existing energy infrastructures, which can help increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The European Union’s leadership in clean hydrogen technologies and policy frameworks is a great asset to the global hydrogen economy. – Countries such as Germany are expected to become clean hydrogen importers through the clean hydrogen market mechanism and support programs, which is a valuable lesson for Korea, which also anticipates significant imports of clean hydrogen, says Jaedo Moon, founder of the Global Hydrogen Industrial Associations Alliance and former chairman of H2KOREA. He also stresses that Korean companies are at the forefront of hydrogen applications such as FCEVs and fuel cells, offering European countries an ideal partner to expand the hydrogen ecosystem. –

J. Moon, said:

International platforms such as the Global Hydrogen Industrial Associations Alliance will play a key role in facilitating information sharing, policy and collaboration among companies, ultimately accelerating our collective journey toward a Net Zero future.

Currently, hydrogen is evolving as an energy solution, mainly due to high costs and stringent regulations. However, with the right support from governments, the private sector and international organizations, hydrogen can become a revolutionary solution that will play a key role in the energy transition, transportation and business. Implementation of more friendly regulations and continued research and innovation can significantly accelerate this process and enable hydrogen to realize its full potential.

The H2POLAND Central European Hydrogen Technology Forum and the NetZero Central European Decarbonization Forum will be held at the MTP Poznań Expo on April 24-25, 2024.
