Hydrogen train collides with slurry tractor: Farmer seriously injured

A tractor driver sustained life-threatening injuries in a train accident at an unguarded railroad crossing in the Stade district. The 61-year-old was flown to a hospital by rescue helicopter, police said. The 13 passengers on the train were uninjured.
The man from Seedorf near Zeven attempted to cross the level crossing on the Bremervörde-Buxtehude line with a slurry trailer and failed to see the train, according to reports. The train driver was unable to prevent the collision despite braking.
The force of the impact destroyed the tractor. The train driver and the train attendant suffered shock. Around 100 emergency personnel rushed to the scene. The property damage caused by the accident is initially estimated at several tens of thousands of euros.
According to police, the hydrogen train operated by Eisenbahn und Verkehrsbetriebe Elbe-Weser (EVB) derailed during the accident and had to be lifted back onto the track. The single-track railway line between Hesedorf (Rotenburg district) and Kutenholz station (Stade district) is currently closed. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
