Hydrogen – Uber Canada partners with Toyota KINTO Share program to offer drivers zero-emission vehicle rentals.

Uber and Toyota Canada, with Toyota Financial Services, announced a partnership allowing eligible drivers on the Uber platform in the Metro Vancouver area to rent zero-emission vehicles through the KINTO Share program.

Using this platform, drivers can now access Toyota’s all-electric bZ4X and will soon also have access to Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell electric Mirai.

This collaboration enables more rideshare drivers and riders to experience high quality zero-emission vehicle technology and to choose more sustainable options, while contributing to carbon neutrality goals.

Michael van Hemmen, General Manager of Mobility for Uber in Canada, said:

At Uber, we’re committed to becoming a zero-emission mobility platform. Driver access to try electric or hydrogen vehicles is an important part of our sustainability goals.

“Switching to a zero emissions vehicle is a big decision. This partnership with Toyota Canada gives drivers an opportunity to experience a zero emission vehicle as their primary rideshare vehicle and understand the benefits and cost savings.”

Stephen Beatty, Vice President, Corporate, Toyota Canada, said:

We’re proud to partner with Uber in this important initiative that brings us closer to our mutual environmental sustainability goals.

“Connected by our understanding of the critical role of rideshare in lowering emissions and in advancing mobility, this partnership will improve accessibility to get more drivers into zero-emission vehicles by offering a safe and seamless experience to rent Toyota all-electric and hydrogen-powered options.”

How the Program Works

Through the partnership, eligible drivers on the Uber platform can access a Toyota all-electric bZ4X or, starting soon, a Toyota hydrogen fuel cell electric Mirai through the KINTO Share Canada app and pick it up at one of four Toyota dealerships across the Metro Vancouver area. Both vehicles are eligible to use British Columbia’s HOV lanes.
