Hydrogen Utopia partners with fashion veteran to recycle plastics.
Hydrogen Utopia International PLC (LSE:HUI, AQSE:HUI, OTCQB:HUIPF) said it has entered into a strategic partnership with Ethical Fashion Group (EFG), which was co-founded by British fashion industry veteran Harold Tillman.
According to a statement from the company, which turns non-recyclable mixed waste plastic into hydrogen and other carbon-free fuels, the partnership will provide a “ground-breaking” fashion pollution solution.
Aleksandra Binkowska, founder and CEO of Hydrogen Utopia in a statement, said:
Our fashion pollution solution will give manufacturers access for the first time to technology that turns these items into road-fuel quality hydrogen fuel that will power the next generation of carbon-free vehicles.
Clothing manufacturers, suppliers and retailers can address the environmental impact of products that include non-recyclable plastics, such as polyester and polyamides, it said.
Tillman’s EFG matches fashion businesses with sustainable suppliers and currently provides this service to 60,000 companies in 140 countries.
Harold Tillman, British fashion industry veteran said:
The technology developed by Hydrogen Utopia means that, for the first time ever, the fashion industry can be part of the solution to the epidemic of plastic pollution facing the planet, rather than part of the problem.
Said Tillman, who is the only person to have served two consecutive terms as chairman of the British Fashion Council.
Hydrogen Utopia noted that the clothing industry is the biggest pollutant in the world after the oil and gas sector, producing an estimated 92mln tonnes of textile waste every day.
