Hynovera – Hy2gen and partner Technip Energies start in phase of feasibility studies.
In Meyreuil, Bouches-du-Rhône, Hy2gen and partner Technip Energies are launching the feasibility study phase for the Hynovera project, which aims to produce renewable fuels for aviation and seafaring on an industrial scale.
To this end, Hy2gen AG, the global specialist in the production of hydrogen and renewable fuels, through its subsidiary Hy2gen France, has commissioned Technip Energies, strategic shareholder of Hy2gen.
Technip Energies will be responsible for conducting the feasibility studies using the BioTfueL technology marketed by Axens, on behalf of and for the account of the partners of the BioTfueL project. ®®
The Hynovera project with a total volume of around 460 million euros is to be located on the site of the former coal-fired power plant Provence. The project is part of the Territorial Pact signed by the local authorities, the state and the owner of the site to define for the site an industrial renewal related to the energy transition.
Based on an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed with Bionext and Axens in May 2021, Hy2gen AG will be one of the first companies in the world to use BioTfueL technology on an industrial scale as part of the Hynovera project.
This technology enables the production of renewable fuels such as green kerosene or green diesel from wood that comes from ecologically managed forests. ®
E-fuels as an accelerator for the decarbonisation of transport
To further optimize the conversion of biomass into green fuels, Hy2gen and Technip Energies will combine the BioTfueL process with an 85 to 120 MW electrolyser that produces green hydrogen from renewable energy. Technip Energies will be responsible for the design of the plant and the integration of the various technological building blocks.®
Frédéric Balligand, Renewables Product Line Vice President at Axens®, said:
We are pleased and proud that the BioTfueL process, which has been tested and optimized for over ten years – from 2010 to 2021 – has been selected for this feasibility study, which opens the door to promising developments in the field of renewable fuels on an industrial scale.
Laure Mandrou, SVP Low Carbon Activities at Technip Energies, said:
We are proud to be involved in the development of Hy2gen’s projects and in particular the Hynovera project.
“This project, which will help build a sustainable future, demonstrates our commitment alongside Hy2gen and fits perfectly with our strategy to develop the green hydrogen market and its derivatives.”
Cyril Dufau-Sansot, CEO of Hy2gen AG, said:
With Hynovera, we will produce renewable kerosene at the Centrale de Provence site, which covers 10-15% of the consumption of an airport like Marseille-Provence, as well as 16,000 tons of CO2-neutral diesel fuel and 100,000 tons of renewable methanol per year, both of which are clean fuels for shipping.
About Hy2gen
Hy2gen AG, headquartered in Wiesbaden, germany, develops, finances, builds and operates plants worldwide for the production of green hydrogen and hydrogen-based e-fuels. These products are used to realize climate-neutral and competitive fuels and industrial solutions.
The first plants are built in France, Norway, Canada, Germany and the USA. Hy2gen’s goal is to become the market leader in the production of green hydrogen and green e-fuels for mobility, agriculture and industry.
The first-mover advantage of the company, which was founded in 2017, is underlined by a current project pipeline in planning and construction of 880 MW and a project pipeline of over 12 GW in development. In the first financing rounds, Trafigura and other private investors have already invested in Hy2gen.
At the beginning of the year, with the entry of Hy24, mirova, CDPQ and Technip Energies, Hy2gen raised a further € 200 million in investor funds for additional projects – the highest sum ever invested in this segment.
