Germany planning a cross-country hydrogen network.
The metropolitan region of Central Germany, the hydrogen network HYPOS and more than a dozen regional partners have a concept for a comprehensive hydrogen network in the Region commissioned.
The study examines, among other things, the future need of regional companies for green hydrogen and potential generator sources.

There is currently a lot of discussion nationwide about potential hydrogen model regions.

As part of the study to be carried out by DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH and INFRACON, potential users of green hydrogen in particular will be identified in the Leipzig-Halle region, in the vicinity of the Leuna, Schkopau and Bitterfeld-Wolfen chemical parks, at the Zeitz site, in the open-cast mining region Profen, determined in Grimma and Chemnitz and their needs.
In addition, the study will create a concept for a central German hydrogen network between the locations and the future hydrogen storage facility in the Bad Lauchstädt salt cavern. In further work packages, the feasibility study is dedicated to the recording of potential sources for the production of green hydrogen in the region such as wind parks and photovoltaic systems and examines approaches for the economic viability and the financing of the transnational infrastructure project.
The feasibility study, coordinated by the metropolitan region of Central Germany, is supported and professionally supported by more than a dozen regional players and companies.
The cooperation partners include BMW Group Plant Leipzig, DHL Hub Leipzig GmbH, Siemens AG, VNG AG, SĂĽdzucker Group, Flughafen Leipzig / Halle GmbH, Leipziger Group, Stadtwerke Halle GmbH, MIBRAG Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft GmbH, MITNETZ Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft Gas mbH, ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH , Eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co. KG and the city of Leipzig. The results of the study will be presented to the public in late autumn 2021.
