Hyundai Motor Cooperation with ‘KD Transportation and SK&S’ to Convert Bus Hydrogen Vehicles in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Hyundai Motor announced on the 28th that it will cooperate with KD Transportation Group and SK E&S to create a hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the metropolitan area.

The three companies plan to accelerate the transition to the hydrogen mobility era in earnest by replacing 1,000 public transportation buses operating in the metropolitan area with eco-friendly hydrogen buses and strengthening maintenance and charging infrastructure.

Hyundai Motor signed a “business agreement to create an eco-friendly hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the metropolitan area” at its SK Seorin headquarters in Seoul, attended by Hyundai Motor’s vice president Chung Yoo-seok, KD Transportation Group CEO Huh Sang-joon, and SK E&S CEO Choo Hyung-wook.

The agreement was reached by Hyundai Motor, KD Transportation Group, and SK E&S to cooperate to introduce eco-friendly hydrogen buses and build liquefied hydrogen charging stations, and to revitalize the hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the metropolitan area.

According to the agreement, the three companies will convert 1,000 city, wide area, and airport buses operated by KD Transport Group in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province to hydrogen buses by 2027. Starting with 100 units this year, the goal is to gradually complete the introduction of hydrogen buses by 2027.

In this process, Hyundai Motor cooperates for the timely production and supply of hydrogen buses, while supporting stable maintenance services through maintenance networks in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. In addition, it plans to make efforts to diversify hydrogen mobility models in the future.

KD Transportation Group will operate hydrogen buses that will be introduced in the future on the route and provide a site for the construction of liquefied hydrogen charging stations. SK E&S will build more than six liquefied hydrogen charging stations in the metropolitan area and will be responsible for stable production and supply of liquefied hydrogen.

Hyundai Motor expects this agreement with KD Transportation Group and SK E&S to lead to the expansion of the introduction of hydrogen buses in earnest. In particular, other transportation companies are expected to introduce hydrogen buses, starting with KD Transport Group, the nation’s largest land transportation company with 18 passenger transportation companies and about 5,000 buses nationwide.
