‘Hyundai Motors’ dream’ becomes a reality… ‘World’s first hydrogen supercar’ worth 500 million won emerges.

Hyundai Motor Group will produce the world’s first supercar using hydrogen as fuel in 2026. This car, which produces more than 775 horsepower, also gets the title of the first supercar released by Hyundai Motor Group.

According to the automobile industry on the 20th, Hyundai Motor Group decided to develop the ‘N Vision 74’, which was released as a concept car two years ago, as a hydrogen supercar and gave it the code name ‘N74’. We delivered specifications of various parts to be used in vehicles to our first-tier partners. It is expected that production of the ‘T car’ (trial car) for performance verification will begin in August. The production date has been tentatively set for June 2026.

The N74 is manufactured with a rear-wheel drive system that combines a hydrogen fuel cell with a high-performance motor. Considering motor performance, etc., it is reported that the output will be more than 775 horsepower. It is reported that the time to reach 100 km/h from a standstill (zero 100 km/h) is 3 seconds, which is similar to a supercar equipped with an internal combustion engine.

The design is a modern reinterpretation of the lines of Hyundai’s ‘Pony Coupe’ introduced in 1974. Like a supercar, it is being planned as a coupe (two-seater) equipped with two ‘gullwing doors’ (doors that open upwards).

Hyundai Motor Group plans to produce only 200 N74 units over two years. The automobile industry predicted that the vehicle price would be around 500 million won.

“The design is retro, but the performance is from the future.”

Olly Q, host of the global automobile channel ‘Top Gear’, said this after drifting in Hyundai Motor Company’s 680-horsepower hydrogen hybrid concept car ‘N Vision 74’ at the Bilsterberg Circuit in Germany in September 2022. With Top Gear suddenly criticizing “ Hyundai cars are like refrigerators,” ‘hydrogen supercars’ instantly became a ‘hot issue’ among car enthusiasts. This video received over 5 million views immediately after its release.

Olly Q’s wish:

I sincerely hope to see you on the road in a few years.

will become a reality two years later. Hyundai Motor Group has decided to produce the concept car N Vision 74 in 2026.

According to the auto parts industry on the 20th, Hyundai Motor Group will begin production of the T car (trial car) of the hydrogen supercar ‘N74’ (code name) designed based on N Vision 74 starting in August. Hyundai Motor Company plans to produce only 200 units of this car for two years starting in 2026. The industry estimates that the price of the vehicle will be around 500 million won.

The reason Hyundai Motor Company produces the N74 is not to make money with this car. The goal is to make it a symbol of Hyundai Motor Group’s future vision of ‘building a hydrogen ecosystem’. The goal is that if the supercar that many people want is produced with cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell technology, interest in hydrogen energy will also increase. It is known that Hyundai Motor Group was considering the effect of informing both internally and externally that it is a leader in the field of hydrogen, which is considered a future energy source.

The production of the T car has the meaning of taking the first step toward mass production. This is because various sensors are attached to the T-car and its performance is verified by driving on an actual road. Once errors and problems that arise during this process are resolved, the specifications are immediately confirmed.

It is reported that the N74 will be equipped with a high-performance motor of 570 kW. If the motor’s performance is converted into horsepower, it is over 775 horsepower. This figure surpasses the performance of the concept car N Vision 74 (motor output 500kW). It surpasses supercars equipped with internal combustion engines such as Ferrari ‘Roma’ (620 horsepower) or Lamborghini ‘Huracan’ (640 horsepower).

Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang Research Center set several goals when developing the N74. One of them is breaking the lap time set by existing internal combustion engine-based supercars by driving more than two laps of Germany’s mountainous long-distance circuit ‘Nürburgring’ (total length 20.8 km) at maximum power.

The exterior design of the N74 has not yet been revealed to the public. However, it is reported that the line of N Vision 74, which won the world’s four major design awards (iF, IDEA, Red Dot, and Good Design) after its launch, will be revived. The N Vision 74 was well received for its design, a modern interpretation of the ‘Pony Coupe’ introduced by Hyundai Motor Company in 1974.

It is known that Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun is also very interested in the development of the N74 . When Chairman Chung met Brazilian President Lula da Silva last February, the gift he gave was the N Vision 74 model. At CES 2024, the world’s largest home appliance and IT exhibition held in January,

Chung, Chairman, said:

They say it is difficult to popularize hydrogen, but someone has to do it, and if we don’t, it can be taken away, so we plan to do it with a sense of duty.

A Hyundai Motors official said:

“The timing of production has not been decided yet.”
