Hyundai Steel Earns Safety Excellence Certification for Two Research Labs
Hyundai Steel (004020.KS) announced Wednesday that two laboratories at its Dangjin steelworks—the Automotive Joining Laboratory and the Hydrogen Laboratory—have been newly certified as “Excellent Safety Management Research Labs.”
The certification program, administered by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), comprehensively evaluates safety activity levels, management systems, and researchers’ safety awareness at universities and corporate research institutes before granting official certification.
Hyundai Steel attributed the certification to “voluntary safety improvement activities where researchers directly identify and address safety risks, and the establishment of systematic safety management manuals supporting these efforts.”
The newly certified Automotive Joining Laboratory contributes to vehicle quality improvement and production efficiency through welding performance evaluation and joining technology research for automotive steel. The Hydrogen Laboratory conducts research to establish an empirical foundation for steelmaking technology that injects hydrogen into blast furnaces to ensure process stability and reduce carbon emissions.
With this certification, Hyundai Steel’s total number of “Excellent Safety Management Research Labs” has expanded from four—including the Corrosion Resistance Evaluation Laboratory, 1,200-ton Hot Rolling Simulation Lab, CFRP Research Building, and Rapid Laboratory—to six.
Hyundai Steel plans to further elevate safety management standards at research sites while strengthening its safety-based research competitiveness.
