In the first nine months of the year, only 10 new hydrogen cars were registered in Switzerland. Their share of the new car market is therefore negligible, as figures from the importers’ association Auto Schweiz show.
Only the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota currently offers a new hydrogen car in Switzerland. The refueling infrastructure is also negligible: there are currently 18 hydrogen filling stations in operation.
Nevertheless, the classic combustion engine is slowly being displaced on the new car market. Alternative drive systems, i.e. hybrid and electric vehicles, achieved a market share of 60 percent in the first nine months. Hybrids with petrol and electric engines (33%) and purely electric cars (19%) are particularly popular.
