Industry Reaction to Kansas Natural Hydrogen Well Results – adjacent licensee, H2Au, welcomes Hyterra’s news as a boost for the wider sector
On 06 May 2025, natural hydrogen and helium explorer, Hyterra (ASX: HYT) announced preliminary laboratory results of up to 96.1% hydrogen concentrations in mud gas samples from its Sue Duroche 3 well in Kansas, USA.
H2Au is a privately-owned, geoscience-led clean energy developer, also focussed on the exploration and production of natural hydrogen (a.k.a. gold or white hydrogen). The company has secured licence areas of more than 15 million acres in Africa and North America. These include joint leases with 45-8 Energy, in directly adjacent blocks to Hyterra’s Kansas well.
Welcoming Hyterra’s announcement, H2Au’s CEO, Owain Jackson, said:
As neighbouring natural hydrogen and helium developers, H2Au would like to congratulate Hyterra on some of the highest hydrogen concentrations seen to date, and we eagerly await further verification from downhole sampling and gas monitoring.
“These preliminary results represent a major confidence boost not just for fellow natural hydrogen developers but also for investors, regulators, contractors and the wider supply chain – many of whom are shared across multiple exploration prospects, production projects and operators. We believe that these results significantly de-risk adjacent licences in similar geological plays, held in Kansas by H2Au and other natural hydrogen pioneers. In a nascent industry such as ours, collaboration is key, and good news for one company reflects positively on the whole sector.”
